There are two types of opportunities for college students to play with university-affiliated teams:
varsity and club

Varsity Field Hockey

Rhodes College is the only college to has a Varsity program in Tennessee. Rhodes is a Division 3 program and competes in the SAA.

In order to play at the Varsity level in college, athletes typically have to be recruited out of high school.

Rhodes College Field Hockey

A Division 3 school that competes in the SAA, located in Memphis.

Club Field Hockey

Vanderbilt University has Co-ed Club Field Hockey. Club teams can be joined by anyone attending the university, and the competition and commitment level is a not as high as Varsity programs.
