Hello Field Hockey Enthusiasts!

Over the past couple months, Great Lakes Regional Field Hockey has continued to support field hockey communities with consistent programming and coach education development.

Out of Legacy Center in Brighton, Great Lakes has hosted winter, spring and summer leagues for U8-U12, Middle School, and High School athletes. These leagues focused on skill development and game play tactics. Across all ages, many athletes participated and enjoyed learning about the game. In addition to the leagues, Great Lakes ran a Scoring Clinic, Defensive Clinic, and a 5v5 Play day. By hosting specific skill clinics, coaches were able to break down one part of the game to allow athletes to focus and develop their skills in that aspect.

Similarly, Great Lakes held clinics and a spring league at Oakland Yard Athletics in Waterford Township. This community is relatively new to field hockey, but has seen growth in athletes playing the sport due to sustained programming. The spring league had athletes from 3rd to 8th grade participating and learning more about the game, with many being their first time playing. Great Lakes also hosted a defensive clinic at Oakland yard which allowed for breakdown of skill sets and saw high levels of defensive play at the end.

In conjunction with the Michigan Chapter of USA Field Hockey, Great Lakes created a coach development series. Great Lakes hosted many talented coach presenters, including Ryan Langford, Nancy Cox, and Lucia Belassi White. The first two sessions were via zoom and the third was in person which allowed aspiring coaches to get hands-on learning experiences about coaching and developing athletes. As programs arise across the Great Lakes region, we need coaches to lead them and this series allowed for aspiring coaches to gain new skills and knowledge of the game.

Great Lakes needs your continued support in order to create year round programming and host coach education development programs in new and existing field hockey communities. Please consider making a donation or spreading the word!
