Hello Field Hockey Enthusiasts!

Over the past couple months, Great Lakes Regional Field Hockey has created programming and distributed sticks into new field hockey communities.

On April 9th, Great Lakes partnered with USA Field Hockey to run a Discover Clinic out of Legacy Center in Brighton, Michigan. For a low cost, athletes in the surrounding areas were able to receive a bag, two balls, shin guards, a t-shirt, a stick and a stick for one of their parents. This clinic saw over 70 athletes participate which helped to distribute more sticks into communities making it easier for them to continue practicing their skills.

GLRFH also created a field hockey program in Ypsilanti. For a 5 week, nine session program, kids at Estabrook Elementary School were able to participate in field hockey after school. Great Lakes provided all the sticks, balls, and coaches with no cost to the families. The program was a huge success with as many as 35 boys and girls showing up to play. Many thoroughly enjoyed the sport and expressed interest in continuing playing. They also learned valuable life skills in teamwork, discipline, and communication.

In addition to starting new programs in area communities, Great Lakes donated sticks to the NW Goldberg Cares Organization. NW Goldberg Cares is a community development corporation located in the heart of Detroit’s NW Goldberg neighborhood, which aims to improve upon the lives of residents in the predominantly African American community. The donated sticks will be used in the Play NW Goldberg program which specifically provides inner city kids with a safe place to be exposed to more uncommon sports in the area, such as field hockey.

Great Lakes needs continued support and donations from field hockey enthusiasts, such as yourself, to continue programming and/or donating sticks to underprivileged communities.

Please consider donating or spreading the word to others who may be interested!
